Potassium Sorbate E202 is a white to yellow crystalline powder. It is used as a food preservative because its acidic nature prevents growth of microorganisms. Potassium Sorbate E202 is also used as a replacement for yeast in wine making. Though it’s considered safe, some are convinced it has potentially dangerous health effects.

What Is Potassium Sorbate E202?

Potassium Sorbate E202 is the potassium salt of sorbic acid E200 which is pure white in color and has the chemical formula CH3CH=CH-CH=CH-CO2K. It is generally used to inhibit the growing of microbe in food products and can be also be used as a flavor additive. Potassium Sorbate E202 is used in products such as wine, vinegar, salted vegetables, pastries, biscuits, bread, and processed meats.
